Beau’s Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus beauperryi) is a reef-safe fairy wrasse from the western Pacific (Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands) that stays active in the water column and around rockwork. Color commonly presents as purplish-red tones with a contrasting blue belly, and can shift with mood, lighting, and sex.
What You’ll Observe:
- Makes frequent laps through open water, then weaves back into the rockwork between passes
- Extends fins and intensifies color during “display” moments, especially around other wrasses
- Uses rock crevices to settle at night rather than burying in sand, often forming a light mucus cocoon
- Spends the first few days close to hiding spots, then becomes more visible as it settles in
For best results, provide a mature aquarium with caves/ledges for retreat and open swimming space, plus a tight-fitting lid or mesh top to handle jumping. Offer a varied mix of small meaty frozen foods and quality prepared foods in multiple small feedings to match its active routine.
How long does it usually take for a new fairy wrasse to “show itself” consistently?
Many settle in within days, but it’s also common for them to spend longer near the rocks at first and then expand their swim pattern as they learn the tank’s routines.
Do fairy wrasses sleep in the sand like some other wrasses?
Most fairy wrasses don’t bury; they wedge into rockwork to rest, and some will form a temporary mucus cocoon at night.
What does “flashing” or sudden color intensifying mean?
It’s a normal display behavior and is often seen during excitement, feeding time, or when responding to other fish in the water column.
Can I keep more than one fairy wrasse together?
Often yes if you plan the mix thoughtfully—introducing fish with different shapes/colors and adding the more assertive wrasse last tends to reduce constant posturing.
Why does my wrasse look less colorful some days than others?
Day-to-day color shifts are normal; stable lighting, regular feeding, and a predictable photoperiod usually bring out the best long-term coloration.
Shipped with pure oxygen and temperature control so it arrives stress-free and ready to eat.
