Jordan’s Tusk Wrasse (Choerodon jordani) is a tuskfish-type wrasse with a sturdy profile and the characteristic front “tusk” teeth that give the group its name. It’s a Western Pacific reef-associated species that’s often seen staying close to structure and sandy areas where it can settle in and feel secure.
What You’ll Observe:
- Patrols the lower half of the aquarium, weaving between rockwork and open sand
- Establishes a preferred cave/ledge and returns to that area between swims
- Becomes notably more forward and interactive at feeding time
- Often picks up and chews larger food pieces before swallowing
Provide stable rockwork with a few roomy hideouts and an open sand zone so it can choose a comfortable resting spot. Offer a rotation of meaty frozen foods and occasional larger “chew” items (like shell-on options) to keep feeding behavior consistent. It does best when given personal space and tankmates that won’t crowd it during meals.
Why is my tusk wrasse hiding most of the day after I add it?
Many tuskfish settle in by claiming a cave first, then showing up reliably at feeding time.
It rushes the food and pushes other fish away—normal?
A lot of keepers report “food-mode” behavior; spreading food across the tank helps.
What’s a good “starter” food if it acts interested but won’t swallow?
Clam on the half shell and other firm, meaty items often trigger a strong response.
Can it learn to take food from tongs or a dropper?
Yes—many quickly associate tools with feeding and will follow them.
Will it nip my hand during feeding or maintenance?
Some will test-bite if they expect food, so use a feeding tool when training it.
Shipped with pure oxygen and temperature control so it arrives stress-free and ready to eat.
