Neon Eviota Goby: Red (Eviota nigriventris) is a nano dwarfgoby with a compact, perch-and-dart swimming style that fits naturally in reef and nano reef aquariums. Its red-toned coloration shows best when it’s posted up on rock ledges and coral bases, where you’ll often see it “hop” between favorite lookout spots.
What You’ll Observe:
- Frequent perching on rock faces, coral bases, and aquarium glass between short, quick dashes
- Hovering in place in front of a crevice, then settling back onto a chosen perch
- Precise, rapid strikes at small foods as they drift past
- In a pair or small group, individuals often keep separate “stations” and occasionally meet up
Provide plenty of mature live rock with multiple small caves and overhangs so it can pick stable perches across the tank. Offer small meaty foods and appropriately sized micro pellets in short feedings so it can eat comfortably without having to compete in open water. In a peaceful community, this goby becomes a consistent, day-to-day “activity fish” that stays in view around the rockwork.
Is it normal for this goby to disappear for a few days after introduction?
Yes—many settle in by choosing tight crevices first, then become more visible as they learn your tank’s feeding schedule.
Do these gobies do better singly, in pairs, or in groups?
Many hobbyists enjoy them most in pairs or small groups where each fish can claim a few perches; adding them at the same time tends to keep the social dynamic calmer.
Will it eat pellets, or is frozen food required long-term?
Most can be trained onto very small pellets once they recognize the tank’s feeding routine; mixing pellets in with finer frozen foods helps them make the switch.
Do they bother corals if they perch on them?
Perching is common and usually brief—think “rest stop” behavior—so most reef keepers treat it as normal, especially when plenty of rock perches are available too.
Why do I sometimes find it stuck to the glass or resting in odd spots?
This is a common resting/perching behavior for tiny gobies; they often choose smooth glass, shaded ledges, or protected corners as a consistent “sleep” spot.
Our selection process means you get robust, well-adjusted specimens that settle in quickly.
