The Manyline Perch (Liopropoma multilineatum), also called the Multiline Basslet, is a small deepwater perchlet with fine horizontal striping and a compact, rock-hugging body shape. It’s often seen in pink/mauve tones with red pinstripes, and many aquarists report stronger yellow and red coloration as it settles into a stable routine.
What You’ll Observe:
- Short, deliberate patrols between ledges and caves, with frequent hovering near rock faces
- More “out and about” activity in lower light periods, especially before the main lights ramp up
- A consistent “home base” cave it returns to between feeding laps
- Quick, accurate strikes at small meaty foods once it recognizes your feeding routine
Provide mature rockwork with several shaded overhangs so it can choose a preferred bolt-hole and still cruise in and out of view. Offer small meaty foods like mysis, krill, and finely chopped shrimp in calm flow so the fish can feed comfortably. With stable water and a predictable feeding schedule, it tends to become a reliable, daily “cave-to-cave” swimmer in the open.
Why does it seem more active before the main lights come on?
Many keepers notice Liopropoma are most visible in subdued lighting and room-light periods; once your tank lighting cycle is consistent, that behavior often becomes part of its daily routine.
Can it live with other basslets if there’s enough space?
Hobbyists commonly report success when each fish has its own separate cave system and they can establish “their” zones without constant overlap.
Will it reduce pods in the rockwork?
Like many small reef carnivores, it may hunt tiny crustaceans it finds in the rocks, which is normal for its foraging style; consistent feeding helps keep that behavior focused on prepared foods.
Does the color stay pink, or does it turn more yellow over time?
Color often intensifies after acclimation, and some individuals show noticeably more yellow and red once they’re settled and feeding consistently.
Do they usually accept pellets, or only frozen foods?
Many aquarists start them on frozen meaty foods and then mix in small pellets once the fish has a confident feeding response and recognizes the feeding spot.
Each fish is checked for strong appetite and activity before we approve it for your tank.
