Tiger Queen Anthias (Lori’s Anthias) is a deepwater-style anthias with a pink-to-lavender base color and distinct red “tiger” block markings along the back half of the body. It’s a reef-safe planktivore that adds constant midwater movement and schooling-type presence to established reef tanks.
What You’ll Observe:
- Hovering and cruising in open water, with quick retreats into rock ledges
- Strong “water column” feeding response once it learns your routine
- A loose harem-style spacing pattern (one fish often taking the lead)
- More visible, confident swimming after it adopts a favorite overhang
Provide open swimming room plus shaded ledges and caves so it can move between cover and the water column. Feed small meaty plankton-style foods in several small offerings across the day for best long-term consistency. Kept singly or as a one-male, multiple-female group, it settles into a predictable daily rhythm in the upper half of the reef.
How many should I keep if I want “anthias schooling” behavior?
Most hobbyists get the best visual grouping with one larger “lead” fish and multiple smaller companions, sized similarly.
Do they use caves like a cave-dweller, or only as a quick hideout?
They typically claim an overhang or ledge as a home base and make frequent short trips into open water.
Will it take pellets, or is frozen food required long-term?
Many learn pellets over time, especially when pellets are offered in small amounts repeatedly during the day.
Is it normal for one fish to look brighter or act more “in charge”?
Yes’anthias commonly show a loose hierarchy, and one individual often becomes the dominant display fish.
Should I match lighting to a bright SPS reef, or give it shaded zones?
Shaded lanes and overhangs help it stay out in the open more consistently without changing your overall reef lighting.
Each fish is checked for strong appetite and activity before we approve it for your tank.
