The Pink Smith Damsel (Pomacentrus smithi) is a compact damselfish with a silvery-white base color and soft pink edging that shows along the body and fins. It’s a Western Central Pacific species that adds steady movement to reef tanks and fish-only systems.
What You’ll Observe:
- Patrols a favorite section of rockwork and makes quick loops into open water
- Often stays in the mid to lower part of the tank, weaving in and out of caves
- Comes out quickly at feeding time and learns the daily tank routine
- In a small group, you’ll see brief chasing and then a clear “pecking order”
To do well long-term, provide live rock with multiple hiding spots so territories naturally spread out. Offer a varied mix of foods like frozen mysis or brine, quality flakes/pellets, and occasional dried seaweed. Introducing a small group at the same time helps them settle into a more predictable social rhythm.
Will the pink color look the same in every tank?
Color can look lighter or deeper depending on lighting spectrum and background rock; a pale pink outline is typical.
Is it better to add this fish early or later in stocking?
Many hobbyists have the easiest time adding it after rockwork is finalized, so it can choose a home base without constant aquascape changes.
Can I keep more than one Pink Smith Damsel without nonstop chasing?
Adding multiples at the same time and giving several separate “cave clusters” usually spreads attention and reduces repeated one-on-one disputes.
Why did mine seem calm at first and then start acting more territorial later?
As the fish settles in and matures, it often becomes more confident about defending a chosen area of rock.
What’s a practical way to catch one in a reef tank if I need to re-home it?
A clear fish trap baited with food over a few days works well, and many aquarists also net damsels more easily after lights-out when they sleep in the rocks.
Our selection process means you get robust, well-adjusted specimens that settle in quickly.
