The Debelius Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus adornatus), also called the red-fin fairy wrasse, is a small reef-safe Cirrhilabrus from Indonesia (Sumatra and the Mentawai Islands). Adult males are pale pink to whitish with bright red blotches and a red-edged dorsal fin, while females are more reddish with a small dark spot near the tail.
What You’ll Observe:
- Active midwater cruising with quick, smooth turns through open lanes
- Regular inspection laps around rockwork, then back out into the water column
- Brief color intensifying during social displays, especially near dusk
- Confident feeding response once it learns your routine
- Uses ledges and crevices as pause points between swims
Provide open swimming space plus rockwork with several caves and overhangs so your wrasse always has an easy retreat route. Offer a mix of small meaty foods multiple times daily to match its constant activity level. If keeping other fairy/flasher wrasses, adding with an acclimation box and plenty of visual breaks helps everything settle into a steady pattern.
Do fairy wrasses need sand to sleep?
Cirrhilabrus fairy wrasses typically sleep by wedging into rock crevices, and some will form a light mucus cocoon while resting.
Why did my wrasse vanish right after introduction?
It’s common for a new fairy wrasse to spend its first days sticking close to rockwork and only making short appearances, then extending its swim time as it learns the tank’s rhythm.
How tight does the lid need to be?
Very tight—cover small gaps around back chambers, overflow cutouts, and lid corners, since fairy wrasses can launch through surprisingly small openings.
Can I keep more than one fairy wrasse in the same tank?
Often yes when they’re different-looking species or a single male is kept with females; using an acclimation box and introducing in a planned order helps reduce immediate dominance behavior.
What does “flashing” mean and is it normal?
Flashing is a display where the fish briefly intensifies color and flares fins while turning side-on, usually directed at another wrasse or during courtship behavior.
Shipped with pure oxygen and temperature control so it arrives stress-free and ready to eat.
