The Angulatus Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus angulatus) is a small Paracheilinus wrasse known for fine linework and extended finnage that gives the tail a sharper, angular look. It’s native to the western Pacific, including areas around the Philippines and Indonesia.
What You’ll Observe:
- Active mid-water swimming with quick “dashes” between open water and rockwork
- Short display swims where the dorsal and anal fins flare and color intensifies, especially later in the day
- Regular use of cracks and ledges in the rockwork as a preferred resting spot
- Fast, alert feeding response when small foods hit the water column
How to Succeed: Provide a reefscape with plenty of rockwork cover plus open lanes for swimming, and keep a tight-fitting lid or screen top in place. Offer small meaty foods in smaller portions more than once daily so it can feed naturally throughout the day. This wrasse settles in best when it doesn’t have to compete heavily at mealtime.
Will this wrasse “flash” if it’s the only wrasse in the tank?
It can, but the most frequent flashing is usually triggered by seeing other wrasses or a female presence, especially as lights ramp down.
Does it need a sand bed to sleep?
Flasher wrasses typically rest in rock crevices rather than burying in sand, so stable rockwork with multiple shelter options matters most.
How long until it shows its best color after introduction?
Many keepers notice the brightest colors and most consistent display behavior after it learns the daily light and feeding schedule.
Can I keep it with other flasher wrasses?
Mixed-species groups are often done successfully when there’s plenty of space and only one established male per “display zone” in the rockwork.
Why does it do quick sprinting laps near the end of the photoperiod?
That timing commonly lines up with display behavior, where the fish makes short runs into open water and then returns to its preferred area.
Shipped with pure oxygen and temperature control so it arrives stress-free and ready to eat.
