The Eibli Angelfish (Centropyge eibli), also sold as the Red Stripe or Orangelined Angelfish, is a dwarf angelfish with fine orange striping over a tan-gray body, an orange ring around the eye, and a darker tail area. It’s a reef-associated Indo-Pacific species commonly kept for its steady “rockwork patrol” behavior and constant grazing.
What You’ll Observe:
- Short patrol loops through the same rockwork lanes, with regular pauses to peck at surfaces
- Quick dashes into crevices, followed by reappearing from a different opening minutes later
- Increased mid-water swimming during feeding time as it learns your routine
- Consistent use of a preferred cave or overhang as a home base, especially near lights-out
To do well, provide mature live rock with plenty of cracks and caves so it can graze and reset between patrols. Offer a varied menu that mixes marine algae with meaty foods, and include foods formulated for angelfish that contain sponge material. In mixed reefs, it’s best to give it ample grazing space and keep feeding consistent so it stays focused on the rockwork.
Does this angelfish spend the day pecking at rocks?
Yes’constant grazing and “testing” surfaces is normal daily behavior for dwarf angelfish.
Can I keep two Eibli Angelfish together?
In larger systems, some hobbyists keep a pair when introduced at the same time and given multiple separate cave zones.
Why does it sometimes swim back and forth along the glass?
This is often simple boundary-patrolling or reacting to reflections; adding visual breaks (rockwork lines, side/back covering) can help.
Will it change coloration as it grows?
The stripe pattern typically looks sharper as it matures, and consistent nutrition often supports stronger contrast.
Is it normal for it to pick one cave to sleep in?
Yes’many individuals choose a regular sleeping crevice and return to it at the same time each evening.
Our selection process means you get robust, well-adjusted specimens that settle in quickly.
