Healthy, stable animals from vetted suppliers — inspected before packing, shipped overnight. Decades of experience built this model so we can deliver premium livestock at 30%+ less than you'd pay elsewhere.
The 3-Stripe Damselfish (also called the White-tailed Damselfish or Humbug Dascyllus) has three bold black bands over a bright white body with a clean white tail. It typically stays close to structure, using rockwork and tight crevices as a home base while it patrols the surrounding area.
What You’ll Observe:
- Short, confident patrol loops from a favorite rock or coral-like “branching” area
- Quick darting in and out of holes, with frequent stops to hover in place
- A strong “front glass” presence once it learns your feeding routine
- Regular interaction with nearby fish as it maintains its chosen zone
- Sleeping tucked into a consistent crevice night after night
Provide a stable aquascape with multiple caves and broken sight lines so it can claim a home without dominating the entire display. Offer a varied mix of meaty foods plus quality herbivore preparations to match its natural omnivorous feeding style. With consistent feeding and a structured layout, it settles into a predictable daily pattern and stays active in the open.
Should a 3 Stripe Damsel be added early or late in a stocking plan?
In mixed-community tanks, it’s often added after more passive fish have established their spaces. In a damsel-focused setup, adding multiple fish at the same time can help spread attention.
Why does a Three Stripe Damsel sometimes “shiver,” twitch, or show brief color changes?
Short display behaviors and quick color shifts can be part of normal social signaling, especially around territory and courtship. If it returns to normal swimming and feeding, it’s commonly just routine communication.
How do I keep it from knocking over new coral frags or plugs?
Mount frags so they can’t be leveraged (gel + epoxy, or glue to a heavier rubble base), and place new additions away from its favorite sleeping/territory spot. Once the layout feels “set,” it usually spends more time patrolling than moving items.
Can you keep more than one Dascyllus aruanus together?
Yes—single specimens are common, and pairs or groups can work when introduced at the same time with plenty of separated hideouts. A rockwork layout that breaks line-of-sight helps each fish settle into its own zone.
What’s the most reliable way to catch one in a reef tank?
A fish trap baited with food is usually the cleanest method—leave it in the tank briefly so it becomes “normal,” then trigger it once the fish enters. If needed, temporarily shifting a small piece of rockwork can improve trap access without dismantling the whole scape.
Each fish is checked for strong appetite and activity before we approve it for your tank.
