The Atlantic Blue Tang (also called the Blue Caribbean Tang) is an active Acanthurus surgeonfish that spends the day cruising rockwork and grazing algae films. Juveniles often show yellow coloration and shift to deeper blue as they mature.
What You’ll Observe:
- Loops through open water, then returns to graze rock and glass
- Learns a regular feeding “circuit” and revisits the same areas
- Settles into a familiar rock nook when the lights go out
Provide long swim lanes with plenty of live rock grazing surfaces, and offer nori plus other veggie-based foods daily for steady grazing. With consistent feeding and space, it becomes a reliable, active presence that stays busy all day.
When do juveniles turn blue
Color shifts gradually as it grows, often patchy.
Why won’t it eat nori yet
Place a clip near rockwork; keep offering daily.
Can I keep two together
Only in very large tanks, added at the same time.
Is chasing other tangs normal
Short displays are common; extra algae stations reduce competition.
Will it pick at LPS corals
Most don’t; consistent greens keep it focused on algae.
Each fish is checked for strong appetite and activity before we approve it for your tank.
