Blue-Stripe Cave Goby (Trimma tevegae) is a nano reef goby known for thin, iridescent blue striping over a warm orange-brown body. In reef aquariums it spends much of its time near shaded ledges and rockwork recesses, giving you a “reef wall” look even in smaller setups.
What You’ll Observe:
- Hovering in a head-up posture near rock faces, caves, and overhangs
- Short, quick dashes into the water column when small foods drift by
- Perching in tight spots that make it feel like part of the rockscape
- Loose “together but not tight” grouping behavior when kept with others
- Fast retreats into hiding places, then reappearing to resume hovering
For best results, provide an established reef with plenty of small caves/overhangs and gentle-to-moderate flow that carries fine foods past its perches. Offer small planktonic foods (finely sized frozen options and live foods) in multiple small servings so it can feed naturally from the water column. In larger peaceful reefs, adding multiple individuals together can encourage more natural, out-in-the-open behavior.
Will it “hang vertically” or hover head-up, and is that normal?
Yes—this is a commonly observed, natural hovering posture for this species and related nano Trimma gobies, especially around reef walls and ledges.
Why does it seem to disappear for stretches of time?
They often pick a few favorite crevices and rotate between them; once they map out safe perches, you’ll usually see more frequent re-appearances during the day.
Do they do better singly or in a small group?
Many hobbyists prefer keeping them as a small group in a peaceful tank; introducing them at the same time can help them settle into a shared “hover zone.”
How do you get them to take prepared foods consistently?
Start by offering very small particle foods in the flow so it drifts past their perch; once they associate that area with feeding, they typically join in quickly.
Will they perch on rock, under ledges, or even on the glass?
Yes—perching and “ledge living” is part of the appeal, and they often choose shaded overhangs as their default station.
Shipped with pure oxygen and temperature control so it arrives stress-free and ready to eat.
