The Bright-Eye Damsel is an active grazer that spends the day picking at rock surfaces, helping manage film algae in high-oxygen reef conditions. Adults are typically pale/white with a yellow tail, and they naturally occur across the Indo-Pacific.
What You’ll Observe:
- Short patrol swims from a favorite rock, followed by quick returns to the same shelter zone
- Frequent “pecking” at live rock and hard surfaces between meals
- A consistent routine once it selects a home crevice, especially when the lights first come on
- Bold interaction at the front glass during feeding time after the first settling-in period
Provide plenty of rockwork with several crevices so it can establish a home base and move between cover points. Offer a mix of meaty frozen foods plus algae-based options to match its natural omnivorous feeding.
Will a Bright-Eye Damsel claim one “home rock,” even in a larger tank?
Yes—most keepers see it choose a specific crevice or coral-like structure as a base and return to it repeatedly throughout the day.
Do they accept pellets and flakes, or only frozen foods?
Many transition to pellets/flakes once they recognize the tank’s feeding routine, especially if foods are offered in small pieces they can grab quickly.
Is it normal for them to “peck” at rock all day even when well-fed?
Yes—constant picking is typical browsing behavior and often continues between scheduled feedings.
Do they do better added early, or can they be added later in the stocking plan?
They usually settle in fastest when the aquascape has plenty of open shelter choices, so adding when there are many available hiding spots tends to go smoothly.
Will it spend time in branching structures like coral-shaped rockwork?
Often yes—branchy, complex structures mimic the tight shelter zones they use in nature and can become their preferred hangout.
We work with trusted suppliers who keep our specimens healthy and well-fed before shipping.
