The Lined Tamarin Wrasse (Anampses lineatus) is an Indo-Pacific tamarin wrasse with fine blue-green lines over an orange-brown body and a bold black-and-white tail band. It stays active around reef rock and along the sand line, regularly inspecting small crevices as it hunts.
What You’ll Observe:
- Cruising the rockwork, then making quick passes over open sand
- Slipping into the sand to rest at lights-out and reappearing with the light cycle
- Taking small meaty bites, often “chewing” food before swallowing
- Learning feeding spots and showing up when you approach the tank
Provide a mature reef aquarium with ample live rock and a fine sand area deep enough for nightly burrowing. Offer a variety of small meaty foods (mysis, enriched brine, finely chopped seafood) in multiple small feedings for consistent results.
Why did it disappear into the sand right after introduction?
Many keepers report new Anampses may stay buried for several days while it settles into the tank’s daily rhythm, then begin coming out on a predictable schedule.
Is it normal for it to “chew” food and spit it out?
Yes—hobbyists often see tamarin wrasses mouth a piece several times before swallowing, especially with larger frozen items.
What foods usually get the best first feeding response?
Reef keepers frequently start with smaller, bite-sized items (like enriched brine, mysis, or live pods) and then broaden the menu once the fish is eating steadily.
Can it be kept with other wrasses long-term?
Many aquarists have the best results when it has space to establish its own routine, with wrasse additions planned so feeding zones and sleeping areas don’t overlap tightly.
Do I need a lid or mesh top?
Most owners run a full lid or mesh top from day one, especially during the early adjustment period when activity patterns are still developing.
Shipped with pure oxygen and temperature control so it arrives stress-free and ready to eat.
