What You’ll Observe:

• Hovering under ledges and in shaded rockwork through the day, then becoming noticeably more active around dusk and low-light periods
• Short, deliberate feeding “bursts” into the water column when food drifts by, then returning to cover
• Loose grouping behavior when kept with others, with each fish favoring its own preferred nook in the aquascape
• Occasional “pairing off” and close-following behavior between two individuals, especially as they settle in

To help this cardinal settle in quickly, provide shaded retreats (overhangs, caves, and branching-style rockwork) so it can choose a consistent daytime shelter. Offer small meaty foods (like mysis, finely chopped seafood blends, and other plankton-sized frozen options) and you’ll typically see the strongest feeding response in lower light.
