The Cherub Angelfish (Centropyge argi), also called the Atlantic Pygmy Angelfish, is a compact dwarf angel with a deep blue body and a yellow-orange face. It spends most of its time close to rockwork, moving in and out of crevices as it patrols the reef tank.
What You’ll Observe:
- Quick, looping swims around the rock structure with frequent “stop-and-peck” grazing
- Regular laps through the same caves and cracks, especially once it claims a favorite route
- A strong response to feeding time, often grabbing smaller particles as they drift past
How to Succeed: Provide a mature aquarium with plenty of live rock, caves, and shaded gaps to explore throughout the day. Offer a mix of meaty and algae-based foods in small portions so it can graze between feedings and stay active around the rockwork. With consistent lighting, stable parameters, and a familiar feeding routine, it settles into a predictable daily pattern.
Why does it peck at live rock (and sometimes frag plugs) all day?
This is normal grazing behavior’much of its day is spent picking at film algae and tiny growth on hard surfaces.
Can it ignore corals at first and then start nipping months later?
Some individuals change behavior as they fully settle in; steady feeding variety and lots of natural grazing can help keep its attention on the rockwork.
How do I add a new fish after the cherub is already established?
Many hobbyists have better results by using an acclimation box and making a small rockwork change so boundaries feel “reset” during introductions.
Is it normal for it to dart into tiny cracks and disappear for stretches of time?
Yes’this species routinely weaves through tight rock gaps, then reappears to continue its patrol route.
How can I tell it’s getting enough food if it only takes small bites at feeding time?
Look for frequent grazing between meals and a consistent body shape; offering smaller-particle foods makes it easier to see it eat during feedings.
Each fish is checked for strong appetite and activity before we approve it for your tank.
