Rolland’s Damsel (Chrysiptera rollandi), also called the Black Cap Damselfish, is a reef compatible damsel with a yellow, black, and white pattern that stands out against live rock. It’s commonly kept in saltwater community and reef aquariums where it can settle into a favorite nook and stay active in the open.
What You’ll Observe:
- Short patrol routes near rockwork and décor
- Quick, confident feeding responses once settled
- Each fish choosing its own spot when kept in a small group
Provide plenty of rockwork with multiple small caves so it can claim a home base and still leave space for other fish. Offer a mix of small meaty foods plus quality flakes/pellets for a steady routine at feeding time.
Do Rolland’s Damsels change color as they grow?
Keepers often report noticeable color-phase shifts with age.
Will a small group school together?
They commonly spread out, with each fish holding its own area.
Is it hard to sex males vs females?
Sexing is usually not obvious from looks alone in home aquariums.
Why does mine move sand or rubble?
Some individuals “redecorate” around their chosen shelter.
How do people add multiples with less drama?
Adding them together and giving many bolt-holes is a common approach.
We work with trusted suppliers who keep our specimens healthy and well-fed before shipping.
