The Striped Blenny (Meiacanthus grammistes) is a fang blenny recognized by tan-to-brown striping that runs the length of the body and a slightly harptail look as it matures. It’s a reef-safe fish that spends time in the open and around rockwork, giving you a constant, small-fish presence without needing a large footprint. Like other fang blennies, it has venomous fangs used for defense rather than hunting.
What You’ll Observe:
- Perching on rock ledges, then making quick, confident darts into the water column
- Regular swimming laps that keep it visible instead of buried in the rock all day
- A noticeable change in boldness after the first few days as it learns your feeding routine
- Short, direct interactions with tankmates where it holds its position instead of fleeing
