Tracey’s Damsel (Chrysiptera traceyi) is a small Chrysiptera damselfish with a yellow body and a purple-to-blue head and face that can look different under reef LED lighting. It comes from western Pacific reef habitats and is often seen staying close to rockwork.
What You’ll Observe:
- Short, confident patrol loops around a favorite cave or crevice
- Quick “dash and stop” swimming, with frequent hovering near the rocks
- Fast feeding response once it recognizes a routine at the glass
- A regular sleep spot it returns to at lights-out
Provide a rockscape with multiple crevices and line-of-sight breaks so it can establish a home base without owning the whole aquascape. Offer a mixed menu of meaty micro-foods plus algae-based foods so it stays active and engaged at feeding time.
Will this fish look more purple or more blue in my tank?
Color can shift a lot with spectrum and intensity; many hobbyists see the purple tones show up strongest under blue-heavy LEDs.
Is it normal for it to “claim” one hole and keep returning to it?
Yes—many Chrysiptera settle into a specific nook and use it as their home base throughout the day.
Can I keep more than one if I want a “damsel group” look?
It’s most consistent when each fish can establish its own small territory in separate rock zones; adding several at the same time helps spread out attention.
Does it usually bother clownfish?
Most reports focus on space-sharing rather than outright fighting; a tank with multiple hiding options lets both fish keep comfortable distance.
What’s a simple way to reset territories if tankmates start posturing?
Reworking a few key rocks (without changing the whole reef) can break established “boundaries” and encourage everyone to re-map their routes.
Shipped with pure oxygen and temperature control so it arrives stress-free and ready to eat.
