Valentini Puffer

The Valentini Puffer (Canthigaster valentini), also sold as the Saddled Toby or sharpnose puffer, is a small reef-associated puffer with a pale base color, bold dark “saddle” bars, and fine orange spotting along the lower body.

What You’ll Observe:

• Patrols the rockwork in short, deliberate passes, then changes direction quickly to investigate new areas
• Pecks and “tests” surfaces as it cruises, especially around live rock and frag plugs
• Learns the feeding routine and often meets you at the glass when food is coming
• Takes meaty foods with a fast bite-and-chew motion, then returns to foraging between feedings

To succeed, provide stable rockwork with plenty of swim-throughs and shaded pockets so it can move between open water and cover. Offer a varied menu of meaty frozen foods along with occasional marine-based greens to keep feeding consistent and natural.
