The Yellow Fin Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus flavidorsalis) is a small, active reef wrasse known for bright yellow dorsal/fin accents and fast, mid-water cruising. Native to the western Pacific (Indonesia, the Philippines, and Palau), it stays on the smaller end for fairy wrasses and fits well in mixed reef fish communities.
What You’ll Observe:
- Frequent laps through the middle of the tank with quick dashes through rockwork
- Strong “food response,” often meeting you at the front during feeding time
- Short display bursts where color looks deeper during social moments
- A consistent “lights-out routine,” settling into a favorite spot in the rockwork
Provide an established reef with open swimming lanes and plenty of rockwork breaks so it can move between cover and open water. Offer small meaty foods (like enriched mysis and other fine frozen blends) 2–3 times per day to match its active metabolism, and keep tankmates peaceful to maintain steady, confident behavior.
Do I need a lid for a Yellow Fin Fairy Wrasse?
Most keepers run a tight-fitting lid or mesh top so the fish can keep its normal high-energy swimming and display behavior.
Does this wrasse need sand, or is bare bottom fine?
This species is commonly kept without a sand bed; rockwork structure and swim space matter more than sand depth.
Can I keep it with other fairy wrasses?
It’s often mixed with other wrasses when introductions are planned and the tank has multiple “breaks” in line-of-sight for each fish.
Is it normal for a new fairy wrasse to disappear into rockwork at first?
Yes—many owners report an initial “settling in” period where the fish spends more time weaving through rockwork before becoming consistently visible.
How do I tell males from females (or if mine will change)?
Males tend to show stronger, sharper coloration and more frequent short display bursts; in groups, the most dominant fish is usually the one that “colors up” the most.
Each fish is checked for strong appetite and activity before we approve it for your tank.
