The Rhomboid Golden Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus rhomboidalis) is known for its gold-and-purple body patterning and diamond-shaped tail, often called a diamond-tail fairy wrasse. It is a Marshall Islands species associated with deeper reef slopes around Kwajalein Atoll.
What You’ll Observe:
- Active midwater cruising with quick, smooth turns through open areas
- Color intensity that shifts slightly with mood and social interactions
- Short ‘display’ moments where fins extend during active periods
- A consistent routine of sheltering in the rockwork when lights ramp down
Provide open swimming room with plenty of rockwork pockets so it can weave in and out naturally, and keep a tight-fitting lid or screen top. Offer a variety of small meaty foods and keep portions frequent to match its constant movement in the water column.
What does ‘super male’ mean for this wrasse?
It’s a trade term for a fully colored terminal-phase male, typically with the strongest contrast and fin extension.
Is it normal for it to look less colorful right after introduction?
Yes—many fairy wrasses show more muted tones at first, then intensify as they settle into a predictable routine.
Can I keep this with other fairy or flasher wrasses?
Often yes, especially in larger tanks with multiple swim lanes and hiding pockets; adding new wrasses with a short ‘see but not touch’ period (acclimation box) can smooth introductions.
Does it need sand to sleep?
Fairy wrasses typically wedge into rockwork crevices to rest at night rather than burying like some other wrasse types.
Why does it sometimes disappear for a full day even though it was active before?
It can spend extended time tucked into the rockwork after a change in the tank (new fish, rearranged rock, maintenance) and then resume its normal pattern.
Each fish is checked for strong appetite and activity before we approve it for your tank.
