The Red Spot Trimma Goby (Trimma rubromaculatum) is a nano reef pygmy goby with a translucent white body marked by small red spots and an orange-red eye. Adults are typically around 35 mm, and they’re naturally found on deeper coral reefs around New Guinea.
What You’ll Observe:
- Short darts and quick stops as it moves through rockwork and between corals
- Perching on ledges and peeking out from small caves
- More natural “busy” activity when kept with other small, calm fish
- In groups, individuals often spread out to favorite perches
Provide live rock with multiple small hiding spots and calm areas where it can perch and hover. Offer finely sized meaty foods so it can take bites easily, and feed in a way that lets food drift into the rockwork. Many aquarists keep Trimma gobies in small groups introduced at the same time for a more consistent display.
Do they hide for the first few days in a new tank?
It’s common for them to pick a rock crevice and only make short appearances until they settle into a routine.
Is it better to keep one, a pair, or a small group?
Many hobbyists prefer small groups so the fish spread out and show themselves from multiple perches.
How can I make sure it gets enough food in a mixed community tank?
Target a small “cloud” of food upstream of the rockwork so pieces drift past its perches.
Do they jump like other small gobies?
A snug lid or mesh top helps keep them confidently active near the surface and edges.
Can I mix this with other tiny gobies (Trimma/Eviota) in the same nano reef?
It’s commonly done; adding them together and providing many perching spots helps everyone settle in.
We work with trusted suppliers who keep our specimens healthy and well-fed before shipping.
